Program Summary
Freedom Quest’s Specialized Long-Term Residence, “Freedom House”, is home to up to 2 young people who may have multiple diagnoses, come from unstable family backgrounds, and may have been exposed to a range of risk factors including neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and prenatal exposure to drugs and/or alcohol. This 24/7 staffed home is a place where children/youth can find safety, stability, and care from a group of adults who are trauma and attachment-informed, culturally humble, actively engaged, strengths-based, client-centered, and motivated to support them in moving towards their self-identified goals. When applicable, it is also a place where families can experience non-judgement and unconditional positive regard as they work to maintain a relationship with their young person and/or work towards reconnecting and rebuilding relationships that have been disrupted.
Position Summary
The Residence Coordinator is a leader who ensures that the children/youth living in “Freedom House” are having the best experience possible; that their Service Plans are being enacted by staff in the home on a day-to-day basis; that the staff team receives the resources and support they need to do their jobs effectively; and that required administrative tasks are completed as required and on time. This individual is kind, strengths-based, culturally competent, confident, client-centered, trauma-informed, detail oriented, skilled with technology, and can manage their time effectively. Human Resources
Onboarding – Hires, orients, trains, and evaluates (i.e., 3-month probation) Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff in collaboration with the Residence Managers.
Professional Development – Assesses the Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff for growing edges and makes recommendations to Residence Managers for individual and group internal/external trainings.
Culture – Supports the Residence Managers in organizing annual team building opportunities for the Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff to promote healthy workplace culture.
Staff Meetings – Leads staff meetings (2-3 times per month) comprised of Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff. Ensures staff meetings address immediate and long-term needs (e.g., child/youth updates, professional development, new directives, agency updates, problem solving) and promote healthy workplace dynamics.
Evaluation – Evaluates each Residential Child & Youth Worker, Awake Residential Night Worker, Relief Worker, and supplemental staff annually (i.e., Annual Performance Evaluation) in collaboration with Residence Managers.
Administration
Payroll – Completes, reviews, and submits the residence Timecard to Residence Managers every two weeks for Payroll processing.
Scheduling – Schedules Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff in alignment with contract obligations (i.e., double staffing, single staffing, supplemental staffing). Approves/denies Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff’s requests for leaves of absence (e.g., vacation time, sick time, etc.) and schedules backfill.
Finance – Assists Residence Managers in reviewing the annual operating budget and monitors, authorizes, and allocates expenditures in alignment with the budget. Prepares and maintains related documentation.
Documentation - Ensures all required documentation is complete (e.g., Daily Logs, Monthly Reports, Medication Logs) either directly or through delegation. All delegated documentation must be reviewed/audited in alignment with agency policies, procedures, and CARF accreditation standards.
Supervision
Supervision – Provides monthly formal supervision (i.e., administrative, educational, and supportive) to the Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff. Ensures the supervision being provided aligns with each child/youth’s Service Plan, Care Plan, and/or Transition Plan.
Communication – Provides daily/weekly support, communication, direction, supervision, and collaboration to Residential Child & Youth Workers, Awake Residential Night Workers, Relief Workers, and supplemental staff as needed. Ensures direction being provided aligns with each child/youth’s Service Plan, Care Plan, and/or Transition Plan.
Day-to-Day Operations
Inventory – Maintains the Care Settings inventory of supplies.
Cleanliness & Safety – Ensures the cleanliness, safety, security, and maintenance of the Care Setting in accordance with applicable licensing standards either directly or through delegation. Informs Residence Managers of needs that are outside of the approved annual operating budget.
Procedures – Implements and evaluates day-to-day procedures and related documentation to ensure good function as well as to ensure alignment with CARF standards, contract requirements, and agency Policy. Informs Residence Managers of any needed changes.
Policy – Implements and evaluates agency policies and related documentation. Informs Residence Managers of any needed changes (i.e., policy updates).
Other duties
CARF Accreditation – Understands and champions the standards set by CARF for youth residential services. Under the direction of Residence Managers, ensures CARF standards and requirements are met resulting in ongoing successful 3-year accreditation of the programs.
Community Partners – Builds relationships with community partners (e.g., COINS, MCFD, CYMH, primary care providers, emergency care providers, treatment programs, Foundry, clinical counsellors, neighbours, school staff, etc.) to ensure children/youth have access to the resources they need.
On-Call – Provides emergency on-call support on a rotation with 3 other staff.
Backfill – Backfills for other positions (e.g., Residential Child & Youth Worker, Residence Coordinator,) as needed performing their duties as required.
Supervision – Schedules weekly phone check-ins and monthly supervision meetings with Residence Managers.
Supplemental Supports – Assesses the need for supplemental supports (e.g., additional staffing, specialized staffing, Clinical Counselling, Indigenous Elder, Behavioural Therapist, ASD Assessment) as determined by the needs of the children/youth living in the home and communicates these needs to the Residence Managers.
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Education
A diploma or degree (2-year minimum) in child and youth care, social work, or related field. (REQUIRED)
Experience
3 years recent related experience, including 1 year supervisory or administrative experience (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience). (REQUIRED)
Specific training in behavioural modification, children under 12 years of age with support needs, attachment-based parenting, and relationship-based interventions (Trauma-informed practice). (REQUIRED)
Two years of experience working in a residential setting (ASSET)
Extensive experience working from client-centred, strengths-based, harm-reduction, attachment and trauma-informed approaches (ASSET)
Experience working alongside worldviews that are not your own

Current First Aid and CPR Certification
MCFD Record Check (inclusive of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check)
Valid FoodSafe Certification
Valid Class V BC Driver’s License (Class IV preferred)
