Position Summary
Working in close partnership with the Executive Director and the agency’s External Accountant, the Financial Coordinator’s skills, expertise, and actions support the agency in achieving best practices in financial management and remaining responsive to the ever-changing needs of youth and families in the West Kootenay Boundary.
This individual:

is proficient in using diverse technologies including a) Office 365 and related applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint); b) printers, scanners, and copiers
has experience using accounting software (experience with Sage 50 is an asset), including entering invoices, expenses, receivables, and payables
has experience managing payroll (experience with Payworks is an asset), including administration of benefits, remittances, and ROEs
excels in written and verbal communication and is skilled at understanding documents such as contracts, reporting templates, policies, procedures, forms, and reports
has experience analyzing systems and processes, making recommendations for improvements, and designing and implementing change processes
has strong attention to detail and an ability to self-review their work
works autonomously to solve problems but is also comfortable reaching out to team members when issues cannot be solved alone
is a master of being organized and managing their time
exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality
is interpersonally skilled with the ability to work with diverse personalities
The Financial Coordinator is anticipated to allocate their time to the tasks below, however, they have the flexibility to manage their own task list according to the needs of the agency. They are invited to communicate with the Executive Director about any changes to the following task list according to their experience of the position.
Prepare and present:
annual financial reports, including global and project-based budgets
monthly financial reports
contract-related financial reports
Locate, communicate, and develop:
opportunities for improvement to the agency’s finances
opportunities for improvement to the agency’s processes and procedures
Perform tasks relating to:
payroll administration
benefits administration
RRSP administration
ROE administration
accounts receivable and payable
Support and collaborate with:
External Accountant
Executive Director
External Auditors
Freedom Quest Staff
Board of Directors
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Education
Degree or Diploma in Business Administration
Training in standard accounting practices
Experience
Minimum of 3 years’ recent experience in accounting/bookkeeping
Experience with software such as Sage 50, Payworks, and Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive)
Experience working within the social services
Experience working within a non-profit
Experience working for an agency that relies heavily on technology
Experience working alongside worldviews that are not their own
