Self-determination

​Freedom Quest staff respect the unique worth and inherent dignity of each program participant. They respect the diversity among youth in Canadian society and the right of program participants to their unique beliefs. They uphold each program participant’s right to self determination, consistent with that person’s capacity, the rights of others, and the rights of society. Freedom Quest staff respect each program participant’s right to make choices based on voluntary, informed consent.

Social Justice ​

​Freedom Quest staff commit to advocating for youth to a) have access to resources to meet their basic needs, b) have fair and equitable access to public services and benefits, and c) have equal treatment and protection under the law. Freedom Quest staff will challenge injustices especially injustices that affect youth who are vulnerable and under-advantaged.

Service

​Freedom Quest staff place the needs of others above self-interest when acting in a professional capacity. They strive to use the power and authority vested in them as professionals in responsible ways that serve the needs of youth and promote social justice.

Integrity

Freedom Quest staff demonstrate and promote the qualities of honesty, reliability, impartiality, and diligence in their work. They demonstrate adherence to the values and ethical principles of Freedom Quest and promote respect for the organization’s values and principles within their relationships with community partners. Freedom Quest staff value openness and transparency in their work and avoid relationships where their integrity or impartiality may be compromised, ensuring that should a conflict of interest be unavoidable; the nature of the conflict is fully disclosed.

Confidentiality

Freedom Quest staff respect the importance of the trust and confidence placed in them in their relationships with program participants. They respect program participant’s right to the confidentiality of their information. Freedom Quest staff only disclose confidential information a) with the informed consent of the program participant or by permission of the participant’s legal representative, b) when required or permitted by relevant laws, or c) by court order. Freedom Quest staff demonstrate transparency with respect to limits to confidentiality by clearly communicating these limitations to program participants early in their relationship.

Competence​

​Freedom Quest staff uphold the right of program participants to be offered the highest quality service possible. Freedom Quest staff strive to maintain and increase their professional knowledge and skill. Freedom Quest staff demonstrate due care for program participants’ interests and safety by limiting their work to areas of demonstrated competence and referring to other services as needed.
